Influence of mastication and its relationship with Body Mass Index before and after prosthetic rehabilitation in partially edentulous patients

BACKGROUND: The main purpose of prosthetic rehabilitation is to enhance the masticatory function by replacing missing teeth with an artificial substitute, which improves nutrient-rich food intake. There are recent studies indicate influence chewing behavior and energy intake, but little known about relationship between on nutritional status. OBJECTIVE: This study intended assess changes in efficiency before after its status body weight. METHODS: A total 40 partially edentulous subjects aged 45- 65 years were recruited. Body Mass Index was determined measuring weight using a medical grade weighing scale. Height measured wall mounted stature meter Waist circumference anthropometric measure tape. Masticatory sieve method peanuts as test at baseline, 3 6 months removable partial denture. RESULTS: Sieve performed for evaluating showed increase percentage smaller particles 28.3% non-obese 32.15% obese group. obese/overweight group decrease BMI values no significant change BMI.
